Texas Holds Special Session To Deal With Colony Ridge

Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the state legislature will be addressing the ongoing crisis at Colony Ridge – a massive housing development north of Houston that has become a hub for illegal immigrants and a potential center of drug trafficking. The decision comes after The Daily Wire’s investigation revealed the troubling situation at Colony Ridge.

Governor Abbott told radio host Dana Loesch that a special session will be held next month to address the development. He also stated that he had already issued subpoenas to the developers and requested an investigation by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to gather more information on the financial and environmental aspects of the development.

“We are taking this very seriously. Serious concerns have been raised about what’s going on in this Colony Ridge area,” said Governor Abbott. “We’re trying to put together as much information as possible so that we can take appropriate action. Whatever it takes.”

Colony Ridge, estimated to be 60 square miles in size and housing tens of thousands of people, has become a hotbed for crime and illegal immigrants. State officials fear that Mexican cartels may use the development as a foothold in the United States.

Republican officials in Texas, including Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton, have called on Governor Abbott to include Colony Ridge in the agenda for the special session. They believe that the legislature is needed to address the problems stemming from the development.

“The legislature could address this and should address this. Because right now, we don’t have a real clear path to being able to stop it,” said Attorney General Paxton. “We can maybe affect the financing or the financial aspect of it, but I don’t think right now the legislature has given me the authority to do anything about it.”

The Republican Party of Texas also passed a resolution calling for Governor Abbott to hold a special legislative session to address Colony Ridge, citing The Daily Wire’s investigation. They also called for Attorney General Paxton to initiate a full investigation into the development activities of Colony Ridge Land, LLC, and its potential connections to elected officials in the region.

Governor Abbott’s response to Colony Ridge has been closely scrutinized due to his relationship with the development’s owner, William “Trey” Harris, who has donated $1.4 million to Abbott’s campaign. The governor has yet to address his connections to Harris.

Colony Ridge has also captured the attention of U.S. Congressmen from Texas, with Representative Chip Roy stating his concern over the situation at the development and its potential impact on Texas. Florida Governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has also spoken out, blaming “weak, spineless leaders” for allowing the development of Colony Ridge.

The decision by Governor Abbott to address Colony Ridge is a step towards finding a solution to the crisis at hand. The state government is working towards gathering more information and taking appropriate action to address the issues at the development.
