Robber Learns Don’t Mess With A Texas Woman With A Gun

A quiet apartment complex in Fort Worth was shaken Thursday morning by a fatal shooting. Fort Worth police say a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed outside an apartment near I-20 and McCart Avenue. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning, with police receiving two 911 calls from the same woman.

According to Fort Worth police, the woman who shot the teenager is cooperating with the investigation. Upon talking to her, officers learned that she had previously reported break-ins or attempted break-ins before the shooting occurred. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The apartment complex was visibly silent Thursday afternoon, with two bullet holes seen on the front wall. Detectives say the renter had reported attempted break-ins prior to the incident. Police were first dispatched to the scene just before 3 a.m. after the woman made a 911 call reporting an attempted burglary. Officers responded and left to complete the report, but were called back to the scene shortly after when the woman reported that the burglar was back.

According to police, when they arrived at the apartment complex the second time, they found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound to the chest lying on the ground. The female caller had shot the boy, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim was later identified as an 8th grader at Fort Worth ISD’s Rosemont Middle School, just a few miles away from the apartment complex. Durwyn Lamb, who runs multiple community youth programs in North Texas, was set to have a mentoring session with the teenager at school on Thursday. He received a text from the boy’s teacher notifying him of the tragic news.

Lamb, who shares his previous life experiences to guide children and teens on the right path, was devastated by the news. “Today was just like, dang. I just… I wasn’t expecting that,” he said. “Even though I expect that, unfortunately, in the community and the culture, I wasn’t expecting that today. And that hurt me.”

While visiting the scene, we spoke to the teenager’s mother, who also lives in the same apartment community. She revealed that her son would sometimes leave the apartment during the night, but she was unaware of his actions until her other daughter woke her up to inform her of the tragedy.

At this time, the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Fort Worth police have not released any further details about the incident or the individuals involved. Meanwhile, friends, family, and the community are left to mourn the loss of a young life cut short.
