In this edition of ‘What Did Joe Just Say??’, President Joe Biden has recently tried to claim that the rioters from January 6th that stormed the U.S. Capitol “killed two police officers” while giving a commencement speech this past Saturday at his alma mater.
Biden, along with quite a few top Democrats, has once again started to spout the previously and repeatedly debunked claim of these police deaths, but the lastest spouting of it from the President took place at the University of Delaware, from which Biden previously graduated back in 1965. As a matter of fact, no police officials died during the riots, and one who died in the days following was found to have died of unrelated natural causes.
“A mob of insurrectionists stormed the Capitol, the very citadel of democracy,” Biden stated to the fresh gathering of graduates. “Imagine what you’d be thinking today if you had heard this morning before you got here that a group of a thousand people broke down the doors of the parliament of Great Britain, killed two police officers, smashed and ransacked the office of members of the British Parliament or any other, what would you think? What would you think?”

Directly after U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died on the 7th of January, officials with the department issued the claim that he had been “injured while physically engaging with protesters” and “was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.” It was reported by the New York Times that Sicknick had been attacked and beaten with a fire extinguisher, yet another statement that has since been entirely debunked. In the end, the Washington, DC, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner stated to the Washington Examiner In April that the death of SUcknick was entirely “natural” and the result of two strokes.
A pair of other officers, Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey Smith and Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood, killed themselves in the wake of the attacks. The only people who were directly involved with the riots that died on the 6th were Air Force veteran and Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, who was shot in the neck by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, and two other protesters who died of heart attacks, and another who is suspected to have died of a drug overdose.
In a speech that was held in March in Wisconsin, Biden claimed that rioters killed a total of five police officials.
“Look, how would you feel if you saw crowds storm and break down the doors of the British Parliament, kill five cops, injure 145 — or the German Bundestag, or the Italian Parliament?” he stated. “I think you’d wonder.”
“Well, that’s what the rest of the world saw. It’s not who we are. And now, we’re proving, under pressure, that we are not that country. We’re united.”
