Vice President Kamala Harris has assured the American people that she would not hesitate to inform them if there were any concerns about President Biden’s ability to lead the country. With the age of both politicians being a major topic of discussion as the 2024 election draws nearer, Harris made it clear in an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin that she would not hesitate to speak out if necessary.
Sorkin asked Harris if she would ever consider revealing any concerns about President Biden’s health to the public. Harris responded by saying that while she would always follow ethical and moral rules, there was no need for her to speak out as it was simply a political argument being made without any substance. She emphasized the importance of not being “seduced” by such arguments and instead focusing on the administration’s track record of accomplishments under Biden’s leadership.
Harris pointed to the historic investments in infrastructure and job creation, as well as the successful handling of the pandemic, as evidence of Biden’s ability to “do the work” that the American people want from their president. She also mentioned that ultimately, it is the president who makes the decisions on major issues, and Biden has proven himself to be a capable and competent leader.

Sorkin also asked Harris about a statement made by Rep. Kevin McCarthy earlier that day, where he questioned whether he was negotiating with the same President Biden during debt negotiations. Harris dismissed McCarthy’s statement by reiterating Biden’s strong leadership skills and authoritative presence in discussions both domestically and globally.
The concerns over Biden’s age have been a topic of discussion since his campaign for the presidency in 2020, and have only intensified as the 2024 election approaches. Washington Post columnist David Ignatius even called on both Biden and Harris to drop out of the race, citing concerns about Biden’s age and suggesting it could risk undoing the administration’s accomplishments so far.
However, Harris made it clear that age is not just a “chronological fact” and that she has personally witnessed Biden’s strong leadership abilities in the Oval Office and other important settings.
As the focus shifts towards the upcoming 2024 election, it is imperative that discussions about leadership focus on substance rather than cheap political tactics. Harris’ reassurance to the American people about President Biden’s abilities as a leader should put to rest any concerns about his age. With the administration’s successful track record and strong leadership under Biden, it is clear that age is not a hindrance to effective leadership in the Oval Office.
