President Joe Biden, while making a public appearance, seemed to issue a demotion to his director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in what is being called a humiliating snub that happened to be caught on camera.
Biden was making an appearance to speak to a group at a clinic in Washington, D.C. this past Tuesday when he tried to introduce the White House COVID response coordinator, Dr. Ashish Jha. However, Old Joe did not manage to use that title.
“You see Dr. Jha there,” Biden stated, pointing him out. “He’s the guy that’s running the CDC for me these days, basically.”

This statement must have been quite a shock to Dr. Rochelle Walensky, who is the actual director of Biden’s CDC. She took over as the leader on the agency back on the 20th of January, 2021. Before agreeing to take the high-level job within the Biden administration, Walensky was known as the top infectious diseases expert for Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor teaching at Harvard Medical School.
Jha, who only managed to be promoted to the position he currently holds back in April, was also a professor for Harvard.
The response from various Twitter users rushed in.
“According to POTUS, Dr. Jha is ‘basically running the CDC” these days,'” stated a tweet from Dr. Nicole Saphier, a contributor for Fox News. “If the WH advisor controls the CDC, what role does Dr. Walensky have? Does the CDC have any apolitical leadership anymore? FYI, lowering the facemask negates any effect it may have.”
“Does this mean that Jha is ‘basically’ running the CDC for the president, or is this a giant gaffe?” stated TexasConstitutionalist. “Well, either way, it’s horrible in its implications. And, I suppose, either way, it’s still a giant gaffe.”
This event took palce when Biden, alongside first lady Jill Biden, paid a visit to a vaccination clinic in Washington, D.C., in which kids from six months all the way to age 5 are now eligible to get their vaccinations for COVID. Walensky recently endorsed this new series of guidelines despite other countries refusing to vaccinate infants.
“This is a very historic milestone,” stated Biden. “The United States is now the first country in the world to offer safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines for children as young as six months old.”
This is definitely not the first time Old Joe has managed to confuse himself when it comes to prominent members of his administration. Back in 2020, he messed up Xavier Becerra’s title and name when he attempted to introduce him as his nomination for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
“For Secretary of Health and Education Services, I nominate Xavier Bacheria,” stated Biden.
Even just last year, Biden seemed to entirely forget the name of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin as he attempted to introduce him for a White House event.
“I want to thank the sec… the, the former general,” Biden stated. “I keep calling him general, but my, my… the guy who runs that outfit over there. I want to make sure we thank the secretary for all he’s done to try to implement what we just talked about.”
